Systematic review of publications on the barriers and sources of resistance that people with an impairment of function often experience when they need to modify their home environments. The review highlighted seven barriers commonly mentioned in the literature: financial problems, lack of knowledge, lack of social support, denial, concerns about stigma, concerns about desirability and/or aesthetics, and tenure.
