U.S. Census Bureau data on income & social program expenditures are used to examine the impact of changes in mortality, family life, & work experience on the economic status of older women. The impact of shifts in birth rates, labor force participation rates, & productivity are also evaluated. It is concluded that, even with the most pessimistic projections of population change in the U.S., there will be a fiscal surplus available to meet the needs of the increasing aging population.
