The book is to examines the past and present experiences of older people in Australia, spell out existing problems for them and assess the policies designed to alleviate their conditions. It is hoped that this will lead to an increased understanding of the aged and their complex relationship with the rest of society. The book is divided into five sections covering such topics as demographic processes, living conditions, illustrative examples of conditions faced by the aged and future areas of research andpolicy formulation.
