Toward a rationale strategy for promoting healthy ageing amongst people with intellectual disabilities

Journal of Applied Research in Intellectual Disabilities

Author: Janicki, M. P.
Year: 2001
Type: Journal Article

Abstract:

The WHO report on ageing adults with intellectual disabilities noted that in many nations intellectually disabled ageing adults are often institutionalised. Housing is inadequate and health provision neglected, particularly in the developing countries. The key to the promotion of healthy ageing individuals are national policies targeting people with disabilities in infancy and childhood and providing lifelong support for adolescents, adults and families, as well as ensuring adequate housing, health care and occupational opportunities.
