Theory and practice of place: toward an integrative model.

The Many Dimensions of Aging: Essays in Honor of M. Powell Lawton

Author: Weisman, G. D., Chaudhury, H., Moore, K. D.
Year: 2000
Type: Book Section

Abstract:

The authors have identified and organised this chapter in terms of five key themes or propositions which are meant to provide the first outlines of a model for a theory and practice of 'place'. Such a model is meant to help us better understand and more effectively design the environments of homes, day care centres, congregate housing, nursing homes and special care units in which older persons live. This concept of place is meant to capture and convey the patterned nature of these environments as psychological, sociological, and organisational as well as architectural systems.
