Author: Barker, D. J., Reid, D., Cott, C., Fernie, G.
Year: 2001
Type: Conference Paper

Abstract:

In this qualitative study, elderly stroke survivors who used wheelchairs in their homes and community were interviewed to investigate their lived experience. All participants were living with a spouse who was the main caregiver. The findings showed that the wheelchair and its use was viewed positively by the participants. They could identify difficulties relating to using a wheelchair but recognised that it was a necessity. Many expressed that they wished they did not have to use it.
