The growing number of rural elderly in the U.S. has resulted in a burgeoning of research on the advantages of the rural milieu as a context for aging. Research has also demonstrated the central role that religion & the church play for the rural elderly. It is suggested that the church expand its role in service to this population by increasing church accessibility, complementing formal service programs, enhancing indigenous support networks, & providing educational programs.
