Abstract:

This article provides an overview of the major projects of the RERC-Aging housed at the University of Buffalo's Centre for Assistive Technology. The RERC-Aging addresses research, device development, consumer and professional education and service-related projects focussing on the needs of elders with disabilities. Research projects include: Consumer Assessments Project, Enabling Home Environments, Full-Scale Simulations of Rooms and Spaces, Comprehension of Synthetic Speech by the Elderly, Comprehension of Synthetic Speech by the Elderly with Hearing Impairment. A Marketing project (LINK) aims to supply consumers with product information from suppliers of assistive devices based upon their disability and lifestyle profile. Development projects include: bathing unit, easy to use remote control, smart microwave oven.
