The physical . . . the spiritual . . . Can you meet all of your patient's needs?

Journal of Gerontological Nursing

Author: Peterson, E. A.
Year: 1985
Type: Journal Article

Abstract:

Suggests that gerontological nurses must try to meet the spiritual (as distinguished from religious) as well as the physical needs of their older clients. It is maintained that the process of aging may place a great strain on components of spirituality: having meaning and purpose in life, experiencing forgiveness, and having love and relatedness. Long- and short-term spiritual goals, which were presented by R. Murray et al (1980), are included along with suggestions for implementing them.
