The hospital center and aging: a challenge for the social worker

Journal of Gerontological Social Work

Author: Blumenfield, S.
Year: 1983
Type: Journal Article

Abstract:

Older people almost inevitably spend time in acute care hospitals, & planning for these stays must be included in any system of long-term care & social services. Social work is one of several disciplines that contribute to care of patients in hospitals; it can also contribute to long-term care. Gerontological social work in this setting involves the functions of assessment, aiding adjustment to the hospital & illness, discharge planning, educating other hospital staff, & giving support to other staff. Case history examples of these functions are offered.
