Abstract:

Analyzes the evolution of home modification support programs for community-dwelling frail older adults in Japan from an historical perspective. Explains Japan-specific issues that relate to home modifications. Discusses the early history of local home modification programs and their operation. Analyzes the context of the inclusion of home modification programs as a part of the newly implemented National Long Term Care Insurance System. Presents lessons learned from the history of Japanese home modification programs and discusses future considerations.
