The Disability Discrimination Act: ensuring rights of Australians with disabilities, particularly hearing impairments

Monash University Law Review

Author: Tucker, B. P.
Year: 1995
Type: Journal Article

Abstract:

Based on the Americans with Disabilities Act 1990, the Australian Disability Discrimination Act of 1992 also followed passage of laws enacted in every state and territory of Australia except Tasmania between 1977 and 1992. The author provides background information about the American and Australian Acts, and identifies the protections required for people with a specific disability. She suggests means by which the Australian Act can and should be interpreted and implemented to provide maximum protection to persons with hearing-impairments.
