Health Promotion International

Author: Chi, I., Lubben, J.
Year: 1994
Type: Journal Article

Abstract:

Data from the California Preventive Health Care for the Aging Program are used to examine age differences in health promotional activities among the elderly. Assessment, referral, & health counseling practices of nurses are also explored. Surprisingly, many of the oldest old (persons age 85+) were as free of chronic health conditions as younger elderly program participants. A general practice bias was observed against referring oldest-old participants for additional health evaluation & treatment. Practice & research implications are discussed.
