Author: Kendig, H., Brooke, L.

Abstract:

Caring for older persons is much more than treating medical needs and meeting physical losses in old age. Older people want to live at home and manintain their sense of themselves. They resist being seen as dependent patients. By affirming the personhood of each individual nursing prcatice can affirm and be intergrated with older person's needs. The challenge for nurses is how to confirm and respect older person's indentities while at the same time managing tensions with their professional and organisational responsibilities.
