Residential satisfaction of persons with an intellectual disability living in an institution or in the community

Australia and New Zealand Journal of Developmental Disabilities

Author: Barlow, J. A., Kirby, N. H.
Year: 1991
Type: Journal Article

Abstract:

Thirty-one adults with intellectual disability who worked at a sheltered workshop were interviewed about their satisfaction with their residences, social lives, leisure, work and finances. The responses of those who lived in a large residential institution were compared with those who had moved from it into independent community accommodation. Social isolation was an important issue for individuals in both groups. The need for assistance in budgeting was expressed by those in the community.
