Reliability of dry slip resistance test results using the tortus floor friction tester

International Workplace Health & Safety Forum

Author: Martin, G. , Dimopoulos, J.
Year: 1997
Type: Conference Paper

Abstract:

This paper provides an insight into the development of the Tortus Floor Friction Tester and looks at the results of round robin tests conducted in Australia and New Zealand using the tester. Comparisons are made using alternate techniques used in Australia and overseas to explore the effect of test variables on reliability. Results of changing some of the test equipment parameters such as the mass to slider contact surface area ratio, to assess the reliability of readings and determine the relationship of test results with actual slip accidents are presented. Other factors that contribute to accidents are discussed with examples cited.
