Abstract:

Aging is a major focus of research at the University of Buffalo Rehabilitation Engineering Research Centre (RERC-Aging). RERC-Aging research involves: (1) consumer assessment projects: enabling home environments, comprehension of snythetic speech by the elderly, problems in the marketplace, effectiveness in maintaining independence in the home-based elderly (2) device development projects: bathing unit, easy-to-use remote control, smart microwave oven (3) education projects: workshops, videos and training materials, computer-assisted instructional manuals (4) service projects: model for service delivery, project LINK (bridges the gap between companies that sell assistive devices and people with disabilities).
