Public housing and the social fabric of the 21st century

National Forum on Public and Community Housing

Author: Brown, D.
Year: 1998
Type: Conference Proceedings

Abstract:

South Australia has the highest proportion, per capita, of public housing of any mainland state - about 12% or more than twice the national average of 5%. The tenancy mix in public housing is changing fast. More than half SA public housing is occupied by one person, many of them aged. A greater emphasis of home care and our ageing population is leading to greater demand on public housing and Australia needs to invest more in public housing plus refit existing public housing stock to better cater for aged tenants.
