Psychological aspects of aging in residential care

Adult Residential Care Journal

Author: Compton, B. R.
Year: 1989
Type: Journal Article

Abstract:

The increasing inability of the extended family to care for elderly family members has led to the emergence of adult residential care facilities. Here, ways that adult care facility staff can assist elderly residents in living fulfilling lives are presented, eg, by: (1) helping maintain a continuity of self (2) reminiscing, or life review (3) helping them project into the future (4) encouraging group interactions & (5) accepting the individual's withdrawal with the approach of death.
