Abstract:

The complex realtionships between ageing and health make it imperative to adopt a broad view of health promotion for older people. The scope of relevant policy can extend far beyond health care to include income support, street planning and maintenance, and education influencing images of ageing. It requires a balance in meeting diverse needs which vary greatly within as well as between age groups. Further, it involves developing actions which are acceptable to all parties involved including older persons, providers of services, funding bodies and the general public.
