Human Movement

Author: Howe, T., Oldham, J.
Year: 1997
Type: Book Section

Abstract:

Balance and posture are interrelated and a series of physiological mechanisms exist to inform the body if posture has been compromised and the body is in danger of falling. The body responds by altering its posture (moving) in an attempt to maintain or regain its balance. Balance and posture are vital for everyday activities. The physiotherapist plays a major role in posture education, and the retraining of balance and posture following pathology or injury.
