Applicants for rehousing on account of non-psychotic mental illness were surveyed to ascertain the effect of rehousing and compared with a group of controls. Amongst council house tenants requesting rehousing, symptoms of mental ill-health were found in 60 out of 64 who had claimed medical priority and 18 out of 26 controls who had not. Both groups showed similar improvements after rehousing.
