Abstract:

This report presents the major issues discussed at AHURI workshops in partnership with the housing jurisdictions in each State and Territory. Issues discussed related to the major drivers in the housing market, the role of the government in the housing system and about broad options for change. The main areas of policy challenge emerging from the discussions were: the continuing role of public housing and how to meet the associated challenges; the scope for change in Commonwealth Rent Assistance; how to stimulate greater investment of capital in affordable housing; effective solutions to the shortage of healthy housing for Indigenous Australians.
