Reports a 1990 telephone interview survey of 198 rural residents, ages 20-84, of 2 southern U.S. states that assessed the differences between elderly & younger respondents for sociodemographic & housing characteristics, as well as housing attitudes. Findings indicate that rural elderly prefer to remain in their present home & are significantly different from their younger counterparts in sociodemographic characteristics. Recommendations are made for planned housing & for services to assist ageing in place.
