Examines the psychological & socioeconomic dimensions of the leisure experience patterns of the expanding older adult population in the Canadian Great Plains or Prairie region, drawing on survey data from 2,969 persons ages 65+ residing in southern Saskatchewan. Results indicate that older adults have a wide range of leisure activities with involvement in numerous individual & community-related pursuits. However, when differentiated by season, winter activities tend to be passive, solitary, inexpensive, & home-based. Moreover, important psychological dimensions in perceived health & activity of older adults do not emerge from factor analysis. There is a need for rational planning policy initiatives providing adequate leisure services within dwindling financial resources for the widely dispersed, aging populations of these regions.
