Abstract:

This chapter introduces the necessity of home modifications in the current climate, establishing and outlining some synonymous terminology and providing an introduction to and overview of the whole book. The authors outline the detail present in the book with regard to home modifications - consultation, needs, affordability and the implementation of home modification programs for consumers, with the opportunity for re-education and re-assessment, so that new and relevant policy decisions are made and needs are appropriately met. Suggestions are made for government financial policies to benefit users through tax cuts and deductions, in addition to other possible programs to increase the availability and use of home adaptation services.
