Abstract:

This report outlines the protocol for responding to the abuse of older people, the parameters of it and how it was developed. The report defines the forms of abuse and the principals for interagency response, intervention for reporting the abuse to the NSW Police. The report examines the ability for mental capacity and consent in older people in terms of does the older person consent to the activity which resulted to the abuse and whether undue influence and consent in regards to the abuse occurring. Finally the report examines what responses can be made about the abuse which can involve the NSW Police, NSW Health, Aged Care Assessment Teams and Aged Care Services, Sexual Assault and Mental Health Services. The report outlines how worker should respond when they recognize abuse and the response framework when they do.
