Abstract:

This study investigated how handrail shape, size and surface texture influenced stairway safety. Thre basic shapes: circular, square and rectangular were each tested in 4 sizes. The recommended design was a circular shape with a circumference of 120 mm. The recommended surfaces were enamel, vinyl or glossy varnish.
