In NSW: action on accommodation support for people with psychiatric disabilities in public housing

Australian Disability Review

Author: Steer, M.
Year: 1994
Type: Journal Article

Abstract:

An interdepartmental committee on accommodation and support services for people with psychiatric disabilities in public housing was established by the Minister for Housing, the Minister for Health and the Minister for Community Services in June 1993. The committee focused on concerns expressed by the Department of Housing that a number of its tenants had been placed in public housing without sufficient support services to sustain independent living. The three ministers believed that better coordination between their departments could overcome this. The committee's report, launched in January 1994 presented 21 recommendations aimed at involving a number of government agencies, with a lead agency implementation nominated. The recommendations were all designed for implementation during 1994.
