Housing for elderly people suffering from dementia.

Technology aging: quality of life.

Author: Jensen, L.
Year: 2001
Type: Conference Paper

Abstract:

The Danish Ministry of Social Affairs and the Danish Ministry of Housing conducted a study of housing projects for older people suffering from dementia. The study focussed on housing for people who were no longer able to live in their present homes. Results from group interviews and literature survey showed that during the housing planning stage, problems and difficulties caused by dementia must be taken into account. There may be orientation difficulties in new surroundings, so changes must be avoided. Activities and daily life routines from before the illness started have to be considered. Reduced awareness increases the risk of accidents.
