Housing design for the aged and disabled

Author: Australia Dept of Housing and Construction,
Year: 1980
Type: Book

Abstract:

The Australian Council for Rehabilitation of Disabled estimates that 20-24 per cent of the Australian community is disabled in some way. This estimate is based upon a wide range of disabilities and includes many elderly people with impaired mobility. Despite the significance of these figures, most Australian houses are constructed with little consideration for the people who are less mobile. Disabled people are often confronted with barriers that could easily have been eliminated if a little more care had been taken when the house was designed. This book is published to help people designing or building a home.
