Activities, Adaptation & Aging

Author: Sugar, J. A., Marinelli, R. D.
Year: 1997
Type: Journal Article

Abstract:

Critically examines popular perceptions of aging & health care in the U.S. It is asserted that although the elderly may need a disproportionate amount of medical care, they contribute a great deal to society in other ways. Further, expensive nursing home care is often unnecessary & even counterproductive. It is concluded that society must develop effective alternatives to nursing home care, increased preventive health care, & more in-home assistance to keep health costs to a minimum while promoting the maximum quality of life for the elderly.
