Describes strategies that have been adopted for promoting a healthier elderly population in Hong Kong. Pre- & post test questionnaire data obtained in 1990 & 1992 from 698 participants & nonparticipants, ages 55, in the largest health promotion program for older people in Hong Kong, the St. James Settlement, indicate that health promotion activities may have the potential to save lives, delay institutionalization, & improve life satisfaction.
