Health Problems in Old Age: Cross-Population Comparisons

Gerontology & Geriatrics Education

Author: Rubenstein, L. Z., Karmer, B. J.
Year: 1994
Type: Journal Article

Abstract:

Overviews distinct differences in health parameters between aging subpopulations, including mortality, acute & chronic illness, & use of health services. It is noted that data collection techniques & measures & the reliability of these methods differ greatly between studies of different populations, making cross-population comparisons problematic. In addition to improving the databases, additional research is needed on the cultural factors that affect health-seeking & health-promoting behaviors, culturally appropriate treatment modalities or preferences, & decision hierarchies.
