Abstract:

This paper presents part of the results of a study of government policies that support independent living (IL) in Canada during the Decade of Disabled Persons and beyond. The research documents the major problems as well as some of the positive government initiatives that support independent living. This paper focuses upon the innovative government policies which begin to respond to the basic needs of people with disabilities.
