In this article the risk factors associated with falls are discussed along with other research findings from a Loughborough University study which underpin the government campaign to raise awareness of the problem faced by older people falling in the home. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 157 older people to investigate the problem of falls on steps and stairs in the home. Objective evaluations were performed on the stair environment.
