Abstract:

Throughout most of the world, warning signs next to elevators indicate they should not be used in fire situations. However, the idea of using elevators to assist the speedy evacuation of persons with disabilities has gained acceptance in recent years. The concept of an emergency elevator evacuation sysem (EEES) is developed whereby a small number of persons with disabilites can be safely evacuated from a muti-level building in case of a fire or emergency.
