Abstract:

This paper is one in a series comprising the New South Wales Government's 'Green paper on ageing'. It examines the housing and living circumstances of older people in New South Wales; income and housing costs in the context of different housing tenures; the housing circumstances of older people from non-English-speaking backgrounds and older Aborigines; issues facing older people in different tenures; the role played by supported accommodation programs in maintaining the independence of older people with a physical or mental disability and who need personal or nursing care. Policy implications are discussed.
