Hawthorn, Vic: Ecumenical Housing Unit, Victorian Council of Churches

Author: Burt, H.
Year: 1991
Type: Journal Article

Abstract:

This paper documents a number of existing initiatives by church agencies which have attempted to provide community-based accommodation for people with a physical/ sensory and/or intellectual disability. It focuses on the role of local parishes and the ways in which these groups have cooperated with support agencies to ensure residents have access to appropriate support services. The document draws out the issues at stake, highlights important principles and develops appropriate models which provide a basis for future involvement by the church in this field.
