Author: Barry, N.

Type: Journal Article

Abstract:

Explores divisions in conservative political thought regarding the welfare state in the US & Europe. The morality of welfare, various methods of organizing welfare & degrees of centralization, the role of private contributions, provision of health care, & problems presented by aging populations are discussed. It is concluded that conservatives are likely to advocate the increasing privatization of welfare services. However, the resultant inequalities may create a division in the conservative ranks.
