Abstract:

Advanced telecommunications like the Internet offer tremendous potential for older people with disabilities but the overwhelming majority of frail elderly people still rely on their telephone for telecommunications. There are many phone features available and add-on assistive products that can assist older people with vaious types of impairments (answering machines, voice-activated phone speaker, cordless phones, picture telephones, etc.). This paper takes a look at some of these, including personal emergency response systems.
