Cities and elderly people: recent population and distributional trends.

Urban Studies

Author: Warnes, A. M.
Year: 1994
Type: Journal Article

Abstract:

Social conditions and geographical distributions of elderly people are examined. It is shown that ageing in place effects were observed in the rapid elderly population increase in country districts in the 1980s, although no significant return migration of people in advanced old age was exhibited. In addition, dichotomisation of old age into young and old phases with specific housing and location preferences cannot be adequately established.
