Building Safety From The Floor Up

Author: Cox, R. G.
Year: 1995
Type: Report

Abstract:

This resource guide, written by a building construction inspector for employers, builders, architects and risk managers is aimed at preventing slips and falls. It also identifies high risk areas for falls and stresses the importance of building safety into floors during design, construction and renovation. This is to avoid workers' compensation claims, personal injury suits and federal and state fines. The guide also suggests that space and walking surfaces should be examined first before selecting floor coverings and that Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements should be met for all renovation and new construction projects. A list of slip resistant floors is provided for consideration.
