Bringing assisted living services into congregate housing: residents' perspectives.

The Gerontologist

Author: Sheehan, N. W., Oakes, C. E.
Year: 2003
Type: Journal Article

Abstract:

The authors discuss congregate housing (CH) residents' reactions as a new assisted living services program was introduced in their housing, and provide recommendation for others who are considering the implementation of similar programs. Residents were interviewed before the program was initiated and six months later as a way to better understand their knowledge of and feelings about the program. Results show that although the overwhelming majority of residents endorsed the program as a way to avoid nursing home placement, few understood the features of the program.
