Abstract:

This study investigated the effects of handrail parameters on stairway safety. The study is based on biomechanical and neurophysiological principles with special consideration to the problems experienced by elderly stairway user. The authors investigated the influence of handrail height on stairway safety slope of 33 degrees.The results of the study provide a basis for the selection of handrail height in building design.
