Architects and the architectural model of disability

Designing for the disabled: the new paradigm

Author: Goldsmith, S.
Year: 1997
Type: Book Section

Abstract:

This chapter outlines the author's personal history as a student and later a teacher of architecture and the consistent lack of references to design for persons with disabilities in the course materials or readings. He compares and contrasts the social versus the medical versions of disability and argues a case for the inclusion of enabling design into architectural teaching and practice.
