It is argued that quality of life issues, such as those focused on in the field of developmental disability, arise in the field of aging, & that many of these problems & their solutions are generic to the development of a range of services & systems. By examining the transfer of knowledge from the field of developmental ability, some of the pitfalls encountered in allied systems may be avoided. A reevaluation of professional services in the context of quality of life is urged to strengthen the client's role in decision making within a delivery service oriented to the individual's personal & familiar environment.
