Aging and gerontology: a paradigm of transdisciplinary research.

Collegium Antropologicum

Author: Crews, D. E.
Year: 1997
Type: Journal Article

Abstract:

Examines aging & gerontology in the U.S., focusing on chronic degenerative diseases, inability to perform daily activities, & individual variability in longitudinal patterns of aging. It is suggested that a transdisciplinary approach that considers multiple ethnodemographical, physiological, & psychosocial factors, eg, satisfying nutritional needs, physical activity, & social networks, must be adopted to address issues of gerontology. Transdisciplinary approaches can also provide insight on additional age-related problems, eg, osteoporosis, neurological & cognitive dysfunctions, & institutionalisation.
