Abstract:

To identify criteria for appropriate placement of impaired individuals, compared are interview data from adult day-care clients & nursing home applicants in Vancouver. (Romaniuk, Michael, & Arling, Greg, The Final Report from the Study of Adult Day Care in Virginia, Richmond: Virginia Center on Aging, 1982; & Harkins, Elizabeth B., & Bowling, C., The Final Report of the Study of the Virginia Nursing Home Pre-Admission Screening Program PASP , Richmond: Virginia Center on Aging, 1982). Applicants for nursing homes were found to differ from day-care clients in terms of socioeconomic status, severity of physical disability, living arrangements, sensory impairment, use of in-home services, & length of stay in hospitals. Future research is indicated to analyze the different types of day-care programs & develop predictive models for service use & continuity of participation.
