Abstract:

Describes Adopt an Elder, a volunteer intergenerational program in Los Angeles, CA, designed to dispel misconceptions of aging & provide an understanding of the normal aging process, as well as the diminished physical & mental abilities of individuals with Alzheimer's disease & the other forms of dementia. Personal experiences of former teen volunteers are cited. Methods to sensitively address the needs of both volunteers & elderly clients are discussed.
